Time-Triggered Ethernet
An introduction to deterministic industrial communication, TT-Ethernet frames, clock synchronization, and supported topologies.
In May 2024, my friend, Deval Malhotra, and I conducted research on Time Sensitive Networks (TSN) and learned about Time-Triggered Ethernet (TT-Ethernet).
The research took time and effort, as there is limited information available on TT-Ethernet, especially about frames. For that reason, we decided to create a detailed document to assist beginners in understanding TSN, TT-Ethernet, and its Role in Industrial Communication.
The document covers the importance of determinism in industrial communications, along with a brief introduction to TT-Ethernet, its history, and its applications.
Additionally, we have focused on explaining the differences between TT-Ethernet frames and regular Ethernet frames, the process of clock synchronization, and the network topologies supported by TT-Ethernet. Finally, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of using TT-Ethernet.
